Anupama Dikshit, Artist and Founder

Painting is a joyful, introspective, meditative practice. Art is a tenacious questioning form where not asking and following has become the norm. Anupama explores the answers and found painting a simple but potent way to investigate these thought threads. Her work often is a result of understanding both the physical and emotional journeys which are undertaken, finding joy, solace and inspiration from family, travel, wildlife and the ever-changing world.

Indian born, bred and educated, Anu works primarily in oil on canvas, often incorporating crystals for their playful, light-reflecting qualities. She values the lasting stability of natural pigments and the forgiving attributes of oils.

Anu has strong core values that developed in her childhood. Her life and travels during her early years gave Anu a deep appreciation for both urban and rural life, as well as the world’s cultural diversity.

Art entered Anu’s life during childhood as a source of comfort, but it was at the age of 18 when she received her first formal art training, alongside Archaeology and English Literature at Vasanta college for women (BHU) in Varanasi. She also developed a fascination with pigments and restoration techniques for art and architecture.

At 22, Anu moved to the Dominican Republic embracing the new cultures, languages and experiences that have been brought and incorporated into her art.

After a small attempt at art in Gibraltar, the place that made it possible is London where she now lives and works.

It’s possible, keep at it :-)
